Joel's Picks
In keeping with the 40th year-celebration of Record Research, the Picks will pertain to songs marking this milestone or variations on the 40 theme. Forty years in business is not of biblical proportions, but it's pretty epic for us! The number 40 is common throughout the Bible, whether marking days, years or decades. Some 27 years ago, an Irish rock band recorded a song for their War album, the lyrics of which were from Psalm 40. U2's "40" would become a fan favorite and their closing concert song, from their early days on the college circuit to their numerous world tours. Fourteen years ago, the first major label release for a Christian coffee-house band known as Jars Of Clay yielded one of CCM's biggest mainstream crossover hits, "Flood." The song references the 40 days of the Genesis flood and, like their subsequent songs that refer to Scripture without quoting it, made Jars Of Clay one of the genre's major artists.
