I went deep into my vault for a pair of 72-year-old 78rpm recordings by lesser-known big bands.

In 1940, Gray Gordon and his Tic-Toc Rhythm band hit position #18 with "Ferry-Boat Serenade" featuring vocals by Meredith Blake. Will Bradley and His Orchestra, featuring drummer Ray McKinley, also served up a #18 hit with this instrumental hit "Celery Stalks At Midnight." "Ferry-Boat's" final ranking for 1940 was #133, while "Celery Stalks" ranked a few notches higher at #129.
